Design Manager – Galway

Definition:

Reporting to the Coffey Water General Manager, the Design Manager will lead a team of design and project staff in the delivery of design and technical submissions as required for Water and Wastewater projects including live contracts and tender submissions.

The design management role encompasses overseeing internal and external design consultant teams, controlling the development of the design concept into construction design, build and operation and managing the installation information.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing design and technical resources to meet project requirements, standards and budgets
  • Managing the design process using commercial, contractual, programme/time awareness and technical expertise
  • Supporting, understanding and advising the General Manager and MD as to the requirements and obligations in the development of a project design
  • Ensuring the design process recognises current legislation, standards and codes of practice where appropriate
  • Ensuring design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales
  • Undertake the role PSDP, ensuring H&S emphasis and risk assessed approach to design works
  • Striving to eliminate health, safety and environmental risks in the design and financial risks during construction and/or operation
  • Consider Environmental Aspects and the Life-cycle perspective during the Design process
  • Mentoring of staff, undertaking performance reviews and identification and justification of resource requirements
  • Assist in continuous improvement of group wide design and project quality assurance processes
  • Lead the improvement and development of standard design templates for Coffey Group internal designs
  • Promote continual improvement within the Design Department
  • Manage internal compliance of relevant design standards, championing a best in industry approach
  • Development and continual improvement of Coffey Group CAPEX and OPEX models
  • Ensuring that HSQE Management Systems and processes are adhered to, implemented and maintained
  • Develop Group BIM strategy and implementation plan and the management of the BIM strategy
  • Working with contracts and project managers to deliver value engineering across civil and MEICA works elements
  • Maintaining awareness of industry best standards, equipment and technology with incorporation of same in to the company’s business
  • Development and management of R&D with a view to giving the company the business and technical edge for its clients
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers, promoting Coffey Group business development and strategy
  • Attendance and reporting at meetings of senior management

Requirements:

  • An engineering degree or equivalent experience to support your competency in the role
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Water / Wastewater industry
  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of Water Wastewater DBO projects
  • Knowledge of software including AutoCAD and BIM (Building Information Modelling)
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Ability to present ideas effectively
  • Able to evaluate ideas of others
