Project Description
Coffey Construction (I) Ltd was awarded a Contract to complete development of a Greenfield site at Project Bond Wexford. This Contract involved all works required to bring site from ‘Greenfield’ status to the underside of building floor slab and surrounding process and equipment areas.
Project Delivery
The works consisted of the following main elements:
- Topsoil Strip to 40-acre site
- Erection of 1500m of 2.4m high temporary chainlink security fencing to the site boundary.
- Filling of over 120,000 tonnes of 6F Capping and Clause 804 to Main Building footprint, hardstandings, roadways, laydown areas, temporary contractor’s compound and carpark.
- Demolition works to existing IDA roadway approximately 750m long. Works included removal and disposal of all ducting runs, storm sewers, foul sewers, roadway, kerbing and removal and alteration of potable water main on the roadway for future use.
- Installation of following services to contractor’s compound and carpark; potable water, sewer system, general ducting, carpark for 600 strong workforces, access footpaths, foundations for modular cabin set up for various contractors and pedestrian routes fencing.
- Installation of the following permanent services for Plant; HDPE Potable Watermain, Ductile Iron Fire main, Concrete/HDPE Storm Sewers, HDPE Foul Sewers, General Ducting and ESB Ducting.
- Construction of two number ponds on site. The first was a stormwater retention pond to prevent siltation of adjacent stream upon discharge. The second was a firewater retention pond for fire suppression system on site.
- Design and construction of temporary steel frame and cladding building in contractor’s compound for construction stage of Contract.
Additional Site works Contract
During the construction of Contract Nr. 1 Coffey Construction (I) Ltd were awarded an additional Contract to complete various additional works on site.
The works consisted of the following main elements:
- Construction of HDPE liner to firewater retention pond.
- Concrete Headwalls, footpaths and flow control and monitoring chambers for ponds.
- Construction of 1200m of 3m high ‘Y’ head permanent security fencing to the boundary of the plant.
- Construction of precast and in-situ concrete kerbing to plant roadways.
Contract Nr. 3 – External Site works Contract
Following on from substantial completion of Contract Nr. 2 & 3 Coffey Construction (I) Ltd were awarded a further Contract to complete both hard and soft landscaping finishes for the Project. The works consisted of the following main elements:
- Construction of 10,000m2 of reinforced in-situ concrete roadway around the plant.
- Forming and sealing of 4,500lin.m of joints to concrete roadway.
- Construction of 6,000m2 of asphalt finished site roadways.
- Construction of 1,000m2 of Grasscrete paving to form fire tender access route.
- Construction of 3,000m2 of reinforced concrete footpaths and access tracks for Plant machinery around plant and equipment and process areas.
- Construction of all civil works for boundary security systems installed.
- Completion of topsoil to all grasses areas on site.
- Demobilisation and reinstatement works to Contractor’s compound and carpark outside plant area to Greenfield site.
