Project Summary
This project involved the design, construction and commissioning of a wastewater pumping station, stormwater attenuation tank and associated pipework at Tobermaclugg Park, serving the Adamstown residential development in South Dublin. The pumping station transfers foul water from the Adamstown catchment to the existing Lucan Clondalkin drainage scheme.
Project Description
The Tobermaclugg Pump Station and Storm Water Tank were constructed to service Adamstown; a new residential development located 16 km west of Dublin City Centre. The project included reinforced concrete stormwater and pumping tanks, installation of multiple pumps, control kiosks and extensive pipework connecting the pumping station to the wider drainage network.
Scope of Works
The works included:
- Construction of reinforced concrete tanks.
- Installation of six pumps with kiosk and controls (pumping capacity 110 l/s, ultimate design 355 l/s for 67,920 population).
- Installation of 100 m approx. of 2100 mm diameter main, with additional smaller pipe connections.
- Extensive ductile iron pipework and ancillary works within pumping station and administration building.
Technical Highlights
- Reinforced concrete tank construction to significant depth.
- Installation of 50nr soil nails to prevent flotation of the tank due to the high water table present. The soil nails we integrated into the RC base slab.
- High-capacity pumping system designed for future growth.
- Complex internal pipework and integration with control and kiosk systems.
Added Value
- Delivered a pumping station capable of handling ultimate development flows for Adamstown.
- Phased construction and commissioning allowed continuity of surrounding services and minimal disruption.
- Integration of stormwater attenuation within the development’s drainage network.
Environmental, Safety or Community Measures
- Tanks and pipework designed to reduce risk of overflows and flooding.
- Construction carefully managed to limit noise, dust and disruption to local residents.
- Coordination with the wider Adamstown drainage infrastructure to ensure sustainable operation.
