Coffey is working in partnership with Severn Trent on a significant upgrade to the Hinstock Sewage Treatment Works (STW), Shropshire, in England.
The project increases treatment capacity to support a growing catchment area and enables Severn Trent to meet new Ammonia and Phosphate discharge limits set by the Environment Agency. We’re proud to report that the CCUK team completed the works ahead of the regulatory deadline of 22 December 2024.
A standout feature of the upgrade is the installation of a Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) – one of the largest single-unit RBCs installed in the UK currently and manufactured by framework partner Tuke and Bell Ltd. Now fully operational, it plays a key role in the improved sewerage treatment process onsite.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
• Slide Rail shoring system used instead of traditional sheet piles and frames
• 60% reduction in installation time
• Lower noise levels during construction
• Fewer HGV deliveries, reducing environmental impact
This project demonstrates the value of early collaboration, practical innovation, and engineering expertise – all delivered with quality and efficiency by the CCUK team.
