Coffey Celebrates 50 Years of Building a Sustainable Future at Athenry Headquarters

Over 500 Guests Attend Golden Jubilee Events Honouring Company’s Legacy.

Coffey celebrated a significant milestone last week with a series of festivities at our Athenry headquarters to mark the company’s 50th Anniversary since being founded in 1974. The celebrations, which drew over 500 attendees, commenced with an interactive event for local schools, followed by a client gathering, and culminated in a celebratory staff party to mark the company’s Golden jubilee.

The Athenry school’s event on Wednesday, April 17th, brought together eight local schools and 300 students for an interactive exploration of the world of civil engineering and sustainable water infrastructure across Ireland and the UK. Coffey is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers, and students had the opportunity to explore project models, chat with Coffey engineers, apprentices, and interns about their experiences, and gain insights into building successful careers in the field. There was considerable interest amongst students on the alternative routes to be coming an engineer including the apprenticeship routes where several students were signing-up to explore that route within Coffey once they have completed their leaving certificate.

“We strive to become the leading engineering company at enticing students at secondary school level to know that there are many other avenues to a career in engineering and other related fields” said Sean Coffey, HR director at Coffey.

The anniversary celebration on Thursday, April 18th, brought together over 100 employees, customers, partners, suppliers, and friends of Coffey to celebrate the company’s rich history and achievements. Guests enjoyed reminiscing about Coffey’s contributions to sustainable water infrastructure and civil engineering projects across Ireland and the UK for the past five decades.

“We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone,” said Odran Madden, Managing Director at Coffey. “This anniversary is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team who have consistently delivered exceptional projects and championed sustainable practices within the industry since our foundation in 1974.”

Thursday’s celebrations also featured a multimedia experience, including a historical video featuring the founders of Coffey reminiscing on the early years of the company. Guests were also treated to a video showcasing current employees sharing their thoughts on the company culture, their experiences, and their aspirations for Coffey’s future. Tom Parlon, former CEO of the Construction Industry Federation, served as the MC for the day, and guests were also treated to an insightful keynote address from former Irish politician, entrepreneur, and current media personality Ivan Yates.

To cap off the week’s festivities, Coffey hosted a celebratory staff party on Friday night for over 150 employees based in the west of Ireland. The event acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Coffey team to the company’s success over the past five decades, with a special recognition for the achievements of women in engineering, exemplified by Marie Treacy’s 25 years of dedicated service as a Quantity Surveyor. Seamus Devoy, Joe Caulfield, and Gerry Campbell, each with over 30 years of service, were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to Coffey over the years.

Coffey’s 50th-anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the year with events planned across its network of offices and sites in Ireland and the UK. These gatherings aim to connect with stakeholders, share Coffey’s vision for the future, and celebrate the company’s enduring legacy of delivering sustainable water infrastructure and civil engineering projects.
