As part of the CIF Construction Safety Campaign 2026, Coffey teams across the country have been actively supporting this year’s Back to Basics theme through a range of initiatives focused on workplace safety, personal responsibility and wellbeing.
Over the past two weeks, colleagues came together to learn, reflect and strengthen the behaviours that help create safer workplaces every day.

Confined Space Presentation & Demonstration | Castletroy
In partnership with Ashfield Safety, employees attended a practical confined space presentation and demonstration, reinforcing the importance of planning, hazard awareness and following safe working procedures when operating in high-risk environments.
Drugs, Alcohol & Aggression Awareness | Little Island
We welcomed Robert Cullen, who shared his personal journey through addiction, violence and rehabilitation. His powerful presentation highlighted how substance misuse and aggressive behaviours can impact not only individuals, but also workplace safety, team dynamics and family life. The session reinforced that safety is as much about personal responsibility and behaviour as it is about physical hazards.
Workplace Safety & Wellbeing Talk | Quarry Lane, Sligo
Project teams and partners at Quarry Lane were joined by John Gaughan from The Frontline Mind. Drawing on his experience as a frontline paramedic, John spoke about the lasting consequences workplace incidents can have on workers, their families and colleagues. His message encouraged everyone to remain vigilant, challenge unsafe practices and look out for one another.
Fire Warden Training | Athenry Head Office
Delivered by Galway Fire Equipment, this practical training session provided valuable instruction on emergency response procedures, fire safety awareness and the correct use of fire extinguishers. Hands-on learning opportunities helped build confidence and preparedness in responding to potential fire emergencies.
Lunch & Learn Series
Our Lunch & Learn sessions focused on a variety of topics including Waste Management, Leading by Example, and The Lighthouse Charity. We also hosted a Nutrition & Wellbeing session with Jill Carolan. These discussions highlighted how everyday choices, leadership behaviours and personal wellbeing all contribute to creating safer and healthier workplaces.
Throughout each session, one message remained clear: safety is not a single action or procedure – it is a mindset.
This year’s Back to Basics campaign reminded us that strong safety cultures are built on the fundamentals: awareness, communication, accountability, wellbeing and looking out for one another.
A sincere thank you to all employees, project teams, partners and guest speakers who contributed to another successful Construction Safety Campaign.
When we focus on the basics, we build safer workplaces for everyone.
