When project requirements change, being able to respond quickly and work together becomes even more important.

Coffey has supported Severn Trent Water in meeting an accelerated regulatory compliance deadline at Mayfield Sewage Treatment Works in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Following the Environment Agency’s decision to bring the compliance date forward to 30 September 2026, additional works were required to increase storm storage capacity and help reduce spill events.

Working closely with Severn Trent to understand its priorities and the pressures created by the accelerated deadline, our team developed a practical solution to increase storm storage capacity and help reduce spill events. Through focused design sprints, early supply-chain engagement and collaborative planning, we adapted to the additional requirements and helped progress the works from design and procurement through to installation and commissioning within the revised timeframe.

With works taking place within a constrained operational site, careful coordination was essential. The team worked closely with contractors and local stakeholders, including a neighbouring farm and campsite, to maintain progress while minimising disruption.

The project reflects how we aim to work with our customers: understanding the challenge, adapting when circumstances change and working together to deliver the required outcome.

It also puts Coffey’s ‘Do it Together’ value into practice, with the client, our team and supply chain working towards a shared goal.

Facing changing programme or regulatory requirements? We’d be happy to discuss how early collaboration can help find the right way forward.
