Roscommon Town Centre Public Realm Enhancement Works Now Underway

Coffey has officially commenced work on the Roscommon Town Centre Public Realm Enhancement Project, marking an important milestone in the continued development of Roscommon town and its surrounding community.

The project will transform key areas of the town centre to create a safer, more accessible and more sustainable environment for residents, businesses and visitors. With a strong focus on active travel, connectivity and public space improvements, the works will enhance how people move through and experience the town every day.

At Coffey, our purpose is centred on enhancing communities through engineering excellence, delivering infrastructure that creates long-term value and positive impact.  This project reflects that commitment by supporting a more vibrant and pedestrian-friendly town centre while improving connectivity for all road users.

Delivering a More Connected and Accessible Town Centre

The enhancement works will introduce a range of infrastructure upgrades designed to improve accessibility, encourage active travel and strengthen the overall public realm throughout Roscommon town centre.

Key elements of the project include:

  • Development of a new linear park and cycleway along Circular Road / N61, linking the Lanesboro Street roundabout to the Athlone Road roundabout, including new pedestrian crossing points.
  • Removal of the existing library store and reconfiguration of parking facilities adjacent to Roscommon Arts Centre.
  • Improved pedestrian connections from the N61 through the Tesco car park to Main Street.
  • Public realm and cycleway upgrades along Athlone Road and Brogan’s Lane.
  • Streetscape improvements on Goff Street from Church Street to the N63 junction.
  • Enhancements to Church Street and Henry Street.

These upgrades will support safer and more efficient movement throughout the town while encouraging increased walking and cycling infrastructure use. The completed project will also enhance the visual appeal and usability of key public spaces across Roscommon town centre.

Supporting Sustainable Urban Infrastructure

As towns and communities across Ireland continue to invest in active travel and sustainable infrastructure, projects such as this play an important role in shaping healthier, more connected urban environments.

Through collaborative delivery and engineering excellence, the company continues to support communities with infrastructure that delivers lasting impact.

Works are now progressing on site, and Coffey will continue to work closely with stakeholders, local businesses and the wider community throughout the delivery phase to minimise disruption and ensure successful project completion.
