Delgeny to Blacklion Scheme: Building Safer, Smarter Connections

Coffey, in close collaboration with Wicklow County Council and DBFL Consulting Engineers Ltd., is making steady progress on the 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝) 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞. This project is more than just infrastructure; it’s about creating safer, more connected spaces for everyone who lives, works, or travels through the area.

So, what’s happening on the ground?

We are currently focusing on Section 1, which spans from the Convent Road Roundabout to Chapel Road, with offline works underway in Section 2 (Dromont to Blacklion Road). The reinforced concrete work on the walls in Section 1 is now complete, and the stonework is progressing well. Furthermore, the deep drainage and wastewater network extension is finished, with ducting installations at an advanced stage. The earthworks and road construction are well underway, and new kerbing installation is planned for late July.

A significant benefit of this scheme is the improvement of active travel choices for the local community. The new two-metre-wide footpaths and dedicated cycle tracks on both sides of the road will enhance safety and accessibility. This aspect is particularly important given the number of pupils from St Laurence National School on Chapel Road, and other surrounding schools, who frequently walk or cycle to school.

This phased project, set for completion in mid-2026, aims to promote active travel, reduce traffic risk, and enhance daily life for residents, schoolchildren, and commuters. We are committed to delivering these important infrastructure improvements for the community.
