Coffey is making strong progress on the Ringaskiddy Urban Realm and Active Travel Scheme, a key infrastructure project being delivered on behalf of Cork County Council. This initiative focuses on enhancing local connectivity, safety, and accessibility while promoting active travel in the area.
A central feature of the scheme is the development of a new shared pedestrian and cycle path along the N28 through Ringaskiddy village. One of the major milestones has now been reached, with a new section of shared cycle path officially open linking the Port Entrance to Gobby Beach. This route makes it easier for residents and visitors to access Gobby Beach and Haulbowline on foot or by bike, supporting healthier and more sustainable ways to explore the area.

Currently, Coffey’s construction works are concentrated on Main Street and the Loughbeg Junction. Key activities underway as part of this phase include:
- Site Clearance: 2.54 hectares cleared
- Earthworks: 2,903 cubic metres excavated and disposed of
- Drainage: 961 metres of pipework installed
- Service Ducting: 2,264 metres of ducts being laid
- Pavements and Footpaths:
- 14,606 square metres of surface course
- 11,704 metres of kerbing
- 5,213 square metres of shared cycle track
- 1,410 square metres of concrete footpath
- 1,394 square metres of additional paved areas
- Ancillary Works: Ongoing installation of traffic signage, road markings, lighting, and landscaping
Due for completion in August 2025, the project will bring a range of long-term benefits to Ringaskiddy, including:
- Safer walking and cycling infrastructure
- Improved access within the village and to surrounding areas
- Enhanced public realm through new paving, lighting, and landscaping
- Traffic calming measures to improve road safety

We are proud to be delivering this community-focused project, which prioritises safety, accessibility, and quality of life for local residents and visitors alike.
If you’re in the area, why not try out the new cycle path?
We’d love to hear what you think.
