Engineering Tomorrow’s Infrastructure – One year on from Coffey’s strategic growth plan

One year on from the launch of its strategic growth plan, Coffey has maintained a strong and stable position in a competitive construction market, with group turnover of €140m in 2025. This performance reflects a deliberate focus on delivery, discipline and capability development, at a time when the wider construction sector continues to operate under cost pressures, programme constraints and sustained demand for essential infrastructure.

Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Athenry, Co. Galway, Coffey operates across Ireland and the UK, delivering infrastructure projects in four core sectors: water infrastructure, energy infrastructure, transport infrastructure and civil engineering. This balanced portfolio enables the company to support public and private clients with infrastructure that strengthens communities, improves resilience and supports development, while maintaining a consistent pipeline of work across regions.

Water infrastructure remains central to Coffey’s operations. The company continues to deliver treatment plants, networks and associated civil engineering works for major utility clients. Key projects completed or in delivery include the Castletroy Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade, supporting increased treatment capacity in a live operational environment; the Enfield Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion; and the Duleek to Navan trunk watermain, designed to enhance drinking water resilience in County Meath and support supply for a growing regional population.

In parallel, Coffey is progressing its energy infrastructure capability in response to evolving requirements across Ireland and the UK. This includes the delivery of Stream BioEnergy’s biomethane facility at Little Island, Cork, which will convert organic waste into renewable gas for injection into the national grid, supporting resource efficiency and the development of lower carbon infrastructure.

The company’s transport and civil engineering portfolio continues to deliver public realm, active travel and community infrastructure schemes. Recent projects include the Ringaskiddy public realm scheme and active travel works across Galway and Roscommon, contributing to safer, more accessible and better-connected infrastructure aligned with national and regional priorities.

Alongside project delivery, Coffey continues to invest in its operational capability. Its specialist technology division, Coftec, provides modular and packaged treatment solutions, combining offsite manufacturing with digital design and practical engineering to support efficient and predictable delivery, particularly on programmes requiring tighter timelines or operational continuity. Across the business, investment in people, training, health and safety and digital systems continues to strengthen how projects are planned, managed and delivered.

This approach is underpinned by Coffey’s values of Do the Right Thing, Do It Better and Do It Together, which shape its relationships with clients, partners and communities.

As the business moves into the next phase of its strategic plan, Coffey remains focused on consistent project delivery, sector expertise and long-term client partnerships. With a stable financial base, a broad portfolio of infrastructure work and continued investment in capability, the company is well positioned to support the evolving infrastructure needs of Ireland and the UK.
