Coffey is delighted to announce our latest project award: the upgrade of the existing Mayfield Sewage Treatment Works (STW) located just outside the historic town of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. This important infrastructure project reflects our ongoing partnership with Severn Trent and our commitment to delivering sustainable, future-proof solutions across the UK.
Strengthening Infrastructure in the Heart of Derbyshire
Ashbourne, known for its rich heritage and proximity to the Peak District, relies on robust water infrastructure to support its growing population and environmental priorities. The upgrade at Mayfield STW is designed to ensure long-term compliance with updated environmental legislation set to come into effect in December 2026.
Scope of Works
Commissioned by Severn Trent, the project involves a comprehensive suite of civil, mechanical, and electrical upgrades, including:
• Increasing the permitted Dry Weather Flow (pDWF) from 175m³/day to 220m³/day to accommodate future demand.
• Upgrading the Motor Control Centre (MCC) to enhance operational reliability.
• Carrying out extensive civil works, including new equipment bases, ducting, and modifications to existing structures.
• Installing storm and re-circulation pumps to improve system resilience.
• Modifying existing bio-filters to optimize treatment processes.

- Design Phase: July 2025 – February 2026
- Construction Phase: March 2026 – August 2026
