Dexcom Athenry Wastewater Treatment Plant Commissioning Successfully Completed

Coffey is proud to announce the successful commissioning of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WwTP) at Dexcom Ireland’s European manufacturing facility in Athenry, County Galway. This marks a significant milestone in Dexcom’s continued investment in Ireland’s growing life sciences sector.

The new WwTP was designed and constructed by Coffey to meet the specific needs of Dexcom’s Athenry facility. Central to the plant’s design is an energy-efficient Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), chosen for its high performance and low energy consumption. The project was delivered to a tight timeline, with design and build completed within just seven months.

Phase 1 of the WwTP is now fully operational, providing effective treatment of initial wastewater loads. Planning for Phase 2 is underway and will accommodate future expansion as Dexcom’s operations scale. The full scope of works included the design and construction of inlet works, treatment tanks, mechanical and electrical installations, and all associated civil works.

This project exemplifies Coffey’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure through collaboration and innovation. It reflects our core values:

  • Do the Right Thing – for our clients and the environment.
  • Do It Better – through efficient, tailored solutions.
  • Do It Together – by building strong partnerships, like the one we share with Dexcom Ireland.

We are pleased to support Dexcom in their mission to improve lives through innovative healthcare technology, and we look forward to future collaborations.
