Coffey is proud to be supporting Galway City Council’s Active Travel Department in delivering essential active travel infrastructure in Galway along Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road. These upgrades are transforming how people move around the city, making everyday journeys safer, greener and more accessible for everyone.
With the backing of the National Transport Authority (NTA) and the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), this project represents an important step toward Galway’s vision of a more connected and sustainable city.

Delivering a Safer, Greener Galway
The works include a series of sustainable transport improvements designed to enhance mobility, connectivity and safety:
- Segregated pedestrian and cycle lanes to encourage walking and cycling while improving safety for all road users
- New bus stops and pedestrian crossings to strengthen public transport links and make everyday travel more efficient
- Smarter junctions to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion
- Full road resurfacing and landscaping to revitalise the area and improve accessibility
These urban infrastructure upgrades are already delivering tangible benefits for residents, students and commuters. The enhanced routes to Atlantic Technological University are helping students travel more sustainably, while families and workers now have better options for walking, cycling and using public transport.

Engineering Sustainable Infrastructure for Communities
At Coffey, our purpose is to enhance communities through engineering excellence. The Galway Active Travel project is a clear example of that commitment in action – delivering sustainable transport infrastructure in Ireland that promotes wellbeing, reduces carbon emissions and strengthens community connections.
This initiative aligns with Coffey’s long-term strategy to engineer tomorrow’s infrastructure across energy, water and transport sectors. Through collaboration, innovation and technical expertise, we are helping shape cities and towns that support both people and the planet.
Together with our partners and the wider community, we are proud to be part of Galway’s journey toward a cleaner, more connected and sustainable future.
