Coffey has been awarded Phase 1A of the Woodford Constructed Wetlands project in Co. Galway as part of Uisce Éireann’s Constructed Wetlands Framework.
The framework supports the delivery of nature-based wastewater treatment infrastructure across Ireland through a phased programme of assessment, design, construction, commissioning and optimisation.
The Woodford project will support the development of a new constructed wetland wastewater treatment plant, including upgrades to existing wastewater infrastructure, a new rising main, treatment wetland cells and a new outfall to the Woodford River. The proposed treatment system incorporates engineered wetland cells, vegetation zones, perimeter berms and associated infrastructure across a treatment area of almost 12,000m².
As part of Phase 1A, Coffey will undertake site assessments, constructability reviews, topographical and structural surveys, flow and load monitoring, and geotechnical investigations to support the next stages of project development. Working collaboratively with Uisce Éireann and Stantec, these activities will help establish the technical foundation for the delivery of the scheme.
Constructed wetlands are increasingly being adopted as sustainable wastewater treatment solutions, combining engineered treatment processes with natural systems to provide effective and environmentally integrated infrastructure for local communities.
